Vaccination Policy

Purpose

The safety and well-being of all pets in our care, along with our staff and clients, is our top priority. To provide a safe environment and reduce the risk of infectious diseases, Vinjon’s Kennel requires all pets to be current on vaccinations before boarding, daycare, or grooming services. In accordance with California law, all dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination, which also provides important protection for public health.

Policy Statement

  • All pets must be up to date on required vaccinations prior to boarding, daycare, or grooming.
  • Rabies vaccination is mandatory for dogs (and recommended for cats) under California law. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided at check-in.
  • Up-to-date records from a licensed veterinarian are required for admission.

Kennel Requirements

  • Dogs
      • Rabies: Required by California law. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided.
      • Core Vaccines: DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) and Bordetella (kennel cough) are required for all boarding/daycare dogs. Leptospirosis is strongly recommended.
  • Cats
      • Rabies: Strongly recommended and required in some areas.
      • Core Vaccines: FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) strongly recommended for all boarding/grooming cats. FeLV may be recommended depending on lifestyle and risk factors.

  • Exotic Pets (Rabbits, Birds, Small Mammals, Reptiles)
    • Rabbits: Strongly recommended to be current on the RHDV2 (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2) vaccine due to active cases in California.
    • Birds: Must appear outwardly healthy and free from signs of contagious disease. Vaccination for polyomavirus is recommended when advised by a veterinarian.

  • Small Mammals & Reptiles: While vaccines are not generally available, pets must be in good health, parasite-free, and show no signs of illness at check-in. Owners may be asked for a recent veterinary health certificate when vaccination records are not applicable.

  • Exemptions
    • Pets may only be exempt from a required vaccine if a licensed veterinarian provides written documentation of a medical contraindication.
    • Additional safety measures (such as isolation housing or limited social contact) may be applied in such cases.

Client Responsibilities

  • Provide current vaccination records before or at the time of check-in.
  • Maintain pets on annual or triennial vaccine schedules as recommended by their veterinarian.
  • Understand that pets without proof of required vaccinations (rabies for dogs, core vaccines for dogs and cats) will not be admitted for boarding, daycare, or grooming.

Our Commitment

By requiring vaccinations, Vinjon’s Kennel ensures a healthy, safe environment where pets can thrive during their stay. These policies protect your pet, the other animals in our care, and our staff, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and comfort.
